Jimmy Shin has been blending his musical and comedic talents since he was a child, but it took a "leap of faith" to trade a law degree for a microphone. After graduating from California Western School of Law, Jimmy pivoted from the legal world to the stage, developing a signature style that is uniquely both clean and edgy. A master of crowd work and storytelling, he has built a reputation for relatable humor that resonates with audiences across the globe. A Career Born in Seattle and Refined in LA
Jimmy’s rise began in 2005 when he earned the title of "Rookie Comedian of the Year" at the Seattle International Comedy Competition. On the advice of competition producer Ron Reid, Jimmy moved to Los Angeles—choosing the spotlight over his parents' wishes for him to practice law. Since arriving in LA, he has become a staple of the iconic Sunset Strip, performing and producing shows at: The World Famous Comedy Store, Hollywood Improv, Laugh Factory and Pasadena Ice House. He is notably the creator and producer of "The Shindig Show," a premier comedy event that features top-tier talent and continues to be a must-see residency at major Los Angeles venues.
Global Reach and Streaming Success Jimmy’s career reached a new stratosphere with the release of his specials. His first, "Wok of Shame," is currently available on Amazon Prime and received critical acclaim. His follow-up special, "Wok This Way," was released through Bill Burr’s All Things Comedy, catapulting Jimmy into international touring. Most recently, he took his talents abroad to perform for U.S. troops on a USO tour in South Korea, a full-circle moment for the Asian American comic. Author and Digital Presence In May 2026, Jimmy will expand his storytelling to the page with his debut book, "Laughing at the Abyss," published through Humorist Media. The book provides an intimate look at his journey from law school to the comedy stage, while exploring the nuances of growing up Asian American.
